Eric Wagner took over the Garnet soccer program in 2002, transforming the team in short order. In nine seasons, Wagner's teams have gone 109-54-21 and have had 11 post-season tournament appearances.  In 2010, Wagner's Garnet squad posted a 16-1-4 record, won the Centennial Conference Championship for the second time in three seasons (2010, 2008) and reached the NCAA Tournament for the third-consecutive season (2008-10). The 2010 season also saw the Garnet earn a No. 1 national ranking for the first time in program history.  During the 2008 and 2009 seasons, Wagner led the Garnet to back-to-back NCAA Sweet 16 appearances.  For his coaching efforts during the breakthrough 2008 season, Wagner was named the Centennial Conference and Mid-Atlantic Region Coach of the Year.

In 23 years coaching at the college level, Wagner has earned a reputation for developing talented young soccer players and turning teams into nationally competitive programs.  Emphasizing intelligent, creative attacking play, an honest work ethic, and hard-nosed, disciplined defending, Wagner's team had a +36 goal differential in '10, the best in program history.  In the past nine seasons, the Garnet have had 26 All-Centennial Conference players, 49 Academic All-Conference selections, 11 Regional All-Americans, three All-Americans (Morgan Langley '11, Micah Rose '12, Jeff Kushner '09) and two players sign professional soccer contracts (Morgan Langley '11 and Ladule Lako Lo Sarah '09).  Wagner's Garnet squads have also earned multiple selections to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Stars selections – including current team members Micah Rose, '12, Brett McLarney ’12, David D’Annunzio ‘12 – and goalkeeper Reuben Heyman-Kantor ('06) was named 1st-team CoSida Academic All-American in 2005.

Wagner earned a B.A. from Connecticut College in '88, and an M.Ed. from Temple University in '07.  He played four years of Division III soccer for the Camels, after which he served as the assistant coach of the women's team at his alma mater.  He helped the Camels earn the school's first-ever ECAC Championship in 1988.  He then became the assistant coach at Wheaton College (Mass.), Duke University, and at The University of Notre Dame.  In 1993, he was selected as the first head coach of the new varsity soccer program at Southwestern University in Texas.  In 1997, Wagner moved to St. Mary's College of Maryland, where he became the winningest coach in the college's history.

Wagner earned the Advanced National Diploma from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, and has also coached baseball and tennis at the college level.  He has been a staff coach in four states' Olympic Development Programs, and a member of the Region 1 ODP staff.  Wagner's teams are always active in the community, with service projects, youth soccer clinics, and community outreach throughout the year.

Wagner's playing career includes four years of NCAA soccer, one year with the Heidelberger Sport Club in Germany, two seasons in Raleigh, N.C. ('92 State Champions), two years in Austin, Tex. and a year of semi-pro soccer in Hartford, Conn.  His connections to Swarthmore College go back several years, as two of his sisters graduated from Swarthmore.  Lise ('85, Political Science) and Karin ('90, Religion) are two of the Garnet's most dedicated fans.  Wagner lives in Swarthmore with his wife, Leslee, and their sons, Camden and Nicholas

Ciarán Dalton 

has been with the Garnet since 2003.  He began his playing career in Swarthmore on various Swarthmore Recreation Association teams.  He attended Strath Haven High School in Wallingford, Pa., where he was a three-year varsity letter-winner and an All-Delco selection his senior year.  Dalton then attended Millersville University, and was a four-year varsity player.  He was selected for the All-PSAC 2nd team his sophomore and junior seasons.  As a senior, he was team captain, was named to the All-PSAC 1st team, and earned Mid-Atlantic Regional All-America honors. He currently ranks second all-time in Millersville history in goals with 43, assists (19), and points (105).  Dalton also played semi-professionally for the Cobh Ramblers in Ireland.

Dalton earned his B.A. in Special Education from Millersville in 2000 and his Master's Degree in regular education at Temple University in 2004.  This past summer he earned his doctorate in clinical psychology from Immaculata University.  He has been teaching in the Interboro School District at the Glenolden School in a primary emotional support class for the past nine years. Prior to joining the Garnet, he was an assistant coach at Strath Haven for three years. He helped Strath Haven to the 2001 State Championship and they were runners-up in 2002.

 Due in large part to Dalton's work with the Garnet attackers, Swarthmore's 2010 team achieved the best goal differential in team history (+36).  The team scored in 19 of its 21 matches, and 11 Garnet players scored at least one goal.  He also aided in the development of All-American Morgan Langley '11, who produced the best single-season offensive numbers in program history (14 goals, 14 assists) in 2010.  Dalton has launched the psychological development of the Garnet players through confidence building, visual imagery, cognitive strategies, mindfulness, and improved focus.  Dalton has helped the Garnet become a leader in community service, and is also involved with many local youth soccer programs.  Dalton enters his ninth season with the Garnet in '11.  He resides in Wallingford with his wife, Jenn and son, Jack.

Tor Erik Hotham joined the coaching staff in 2008.  He has been playing soccer since he was six years old.  He was a two-time All-American at Shippensburg University.  At the time of his graduation, he held the team career record for assists.

A midfielder, Tor came to Shippensburg in the fall of 1984 from Warminster and William Tennent High School.  While playing at William Tennent, he was an All-Bucks County selection his junior and senior years.

He finished his career with 25 goals and 19 assists.  He led Shippensburg in assists all four years. It also marked the only time in history that the Red Raiders won 10 games or more four years in a row.

Following graduation, Hotham was hired as the men's assistant soccer coach at Bloomsburg University.   He also earned his MBA from Bloomsburg.  He currently enjoys a successful career as a financial advisor.  He is a managing partner for his own firm, The Comprehensive Wealth Management Group in West Chester, PA.  He resides in Wallingford, Pennsylvania with his wife and three children.

Harry Ischiropoulos enters his fourth season as assistant coach for the Garnet.  He began his soccer career in Thessaloniki, Greece in the youth systems of Iraklis FC and national selection teams.  After high school, he arrived in New York to pursue his college education while playing semi-professional soccer for clubs in New York, California and Alabama.  He was a member of Alabama's Olympic festival team.  Upon arriving in Philadelphia, he has played with several local clubs, most recently with the Radnor United over-40 club that has won the National Veteran's cup, the Keystone indoor games and toured England.

Ischiropoulos, a graduate of Wagner College ('84) and New York Medical College ('90), is a Joseph Stokes Jr. Investigator and the Gisela and Dennis Alter Research Professor of Pediatrics and Pharmacology at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and the University of Pennsylvania. Ischiropoulos is primarily involved with technical player development and tactical analysis of the Garnet’s matches.  This past August, he was the primary organizer of the team’s outstanding pre-season training trip to Crete and Athens, Greece.  Ischiropoulos lives in Nether Providence with his wife, Patti and sons, Dean and Alex.
