The Centennial Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) established the All-Sportsmanship team in 2007. For the Garnet, who have won three of four games, the sixth win of the season is the most by any field hockey squad since head coach Lauren Fuchs took over in 2008. The Garnet’s 3-2 Centennial Conference record marks the first time the team has been above .500 in conference play five or more conference games into the season since 2006, and also equals the most conference victories by any Swarthmore squad since 2007.

All of the optimism stems from a productive offseason that saw the Garnet develop a dynamic new offensive attack while stressing more emphasis on improving defensive fundamentals. Combine that with a talented class of newcomers, and all the ingredients are in place for the 2009 Garnet field hockey team to rebound from last season’s 5-13 record and compete for a berth in the Centennial Conference championships.
