Facilities

  • Athletic facilities include the Cunningham Complex, which has four fields, six tennis courts, team locker rooms and rest rooms. Fields are used as practice facilities for lacrosse, field hockey, and soccer. Rugby and ultimate Frisbee also use these facilities.
  • The Clothier Complex includes a softball field, baseball field and two natural grass, multi-purpose fields. The stadium has a synthetic grass surface for lacrosse, soccer, and field hockey. The field is bordered by a 400-meter track, poured in 2003.
  • The Lamb-Miller Field House features five full length indoor basketball courts, four indoor tennis courts, four badminton courts, three volleyball courts, baseball and softball batting cage, and a 215 meter banked tartan track.
  • The Tarble Pavilion features a 1,200-seat gymnasium with a white maple hardwood floor for basketball, volleyball, and badminton. New bleachers and a sound system were added in 2006. Tarble also houses the sports medicine department, featuring a fully equipped athletic training room with three full-time trainers.
  • The Mullan Indoor Tennis and Fitness Center features three state-of-the-art tennis courts and a 4,000 square foot fitness center featuring aerobic equipment, free weights, and a full complement of MedX selectorized equipment.
  • The Ware Pool is a 10-lane by 10-lane, yards-by-meters competition pool with an electric time system.

 

Honors

  • Swarthmore has had 269 athletes honored as All-Americans, including Kathryn Stockbower, Morgan Langley and Micah Rose in 2010-11.
  • Swarthmore has had 20 athletes named Academic All-Americans, including Kathryn Stockbower in 2011.
  • 17 Swarthmore student-athletes have been Rhodes Scholars, including Caitlin Mullarkey in 2008.
  • On average, more than one-third of Swarthmore athletes per year are named to the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll, which requires a GPA of 3.4 or higher
  • 11 former Swarthmore athletes have been inducted into their sport’s hall of fame.
 

Sport Specific Highlights

Men’s Tennis - Four-time National Champion. Competed in the NCAA national championship tournament in 31 of the past 36 years.

Women’s Tennis  - Won the Centennial Conference four times since 2001 and has competed in the NCAA championships 2003 - 2008.

Men’s Lacrosse - Qualified for the ECAC championships twice since 2000.  Kevin Friedenberg named All-American in 2010.

Women’s Basketball - Qualified for postseason play four times since 2000, including a run to the NCAA Championships in 2001.

Men’s Basketball - 17 players with more than 1,000 career points and 11 players with more than 500 rebounds.

Women’s Soccer - 2007, 2008, and 2009 ECAC Champions.

Men’s Soccer - Apperared in the NCAA Division III Sweet 16 in 2008 and 2009. Centennial Conference champions in 2008 and 2010. Has earned double-digit wins each season since 2004. NCAA Division III national finalist in 1974.  Morgan Langley and Micah Rose named All-America in 2010.

Men’s Swimming - Over 59 Swarthmore swimmers have won individual Centennial Conference championships since 1995. Finished second in the Centennial Conference 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010.

Women’s Swimming - Won the Centennial Conference championship twice since 2002, with five swimmers earning All-America status since 2000.

Volleyball - Reached Centennial Conference Championship Match in 2010. Qualified for the Centennial Conference Championship in 2005, 2009 and 2010. Reached ECAC semifinals in 2010 after winning school-record 20 games.

Golf -  Broke team low-score record (303) and placed individual in Centennial Conference championship match top three (Paul Weston) in 2011.

Softball - Qualified for the Centennial Conference playoffs in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2010. Reached championship round in 2010.

Field Hockey Centennial Conference champions in 1995, 1996 and 1997.

Women's Track & Field - Caitlin Mullarkey named All-American in 2008. Rebecca Hammond and Kenyetta Givans competed in NCAA Championship meets in 2010-11.
